Thanksgiving; where to begin!

First of all, on this Thanksgiving, the fifth since we moved into our house, we are thankful for our terrific families and our great friends. We are especially thankful for our friends who have hosted us (and offered to host us) while we are displaced during the renovation. I wasn't looking forward to being homeless, but I have to say this has been a great experience and we are very lucky.

We are also very lucky to have the great crew and construction company we have working on our house renovation. Even with this being a short week, they continue to amaze with the progress they are making. These rooflines, with the different dormers and ridge beams, can't be easy to frame but they make it look like childs play. Here are some pictures from yesterday afternoon:

Also, over the past week, all of the interior rooms have taken shape and you can now get a feel for how you will move through the house once it is complete. The most significant change to the existing layout was the removal of a pantry and built-in cupboard to creat a hallway that runs from the entry to the living room in the back. Yesterday was the first day that the temporary partitions were removed and you could see what it is going to be like:

It may not look like much now, but this hallway will be the heart of the house, connecting the existing structure with the kitchen, which is the open area on the left and the living room at the far end. (That framed opening to the left in the distance is the same opening that is in the COURTYARD LOOKING INTO LIVING ROOM picture above.)
